New Scissor High Jump Mats

Our new scissor high jump mats have arrived and been put to good use in competition already this season.

The new mats will encourage kids to land on their feet, thereby leading with their hips and jumping over the bar, instead of just falling over it.

The purchase was only possible due to funding provided via the Tasmanian Government's Sport and Recreation Minor Grant Program - an enormous thank you to them.

New High Jump Mats

With the arrival of our new high jump mats this week, two massive thank yous are due.

The first thank you goes to Coles for making such a significant amount of money available via its competitive grant scheme. The second thank you goes to John Anderson for putting together an application which was ultimately successful. Coles kindly donated $5000 to the purchase.

An expensive purchase such as this is almost impossible to contemplate without outside assistance. This is a timely reminder that the new mats will be stored in a shipping container that was majorly funded ($2400) by the Veteran Car Club of Tasmania in 2015.

And what better way to christen the new mats than with a Centre Record. Congratulations to Nathaniel Sulzberger (U13B) for his 1.61 m clearance.

General Information

Little Athletics caters for children from 3-16 years. The coming 2018/2019 season will be the first with the new age group structure - see the tab below for details.

The home ground of Hobart Districts Little Athletics Centre is John Turnbull Oval (JTO) in Lenah Valley. Our normal competition time is Saturday morning from 8:30 until about 10:30-11. We also sometimes have twilight meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30 until about 8pm.

The main track and field season goes from October to March and the majority of our competitions are at JTO. Some weeks there are competitions involving centres from across the state and these are held at the Domain Athletics Centre in Hobart, St Leonards in Launceston, or Penguin on the North West Coast.

Visit our competition calendar for local Hobart Districts events as well as state events.

From April until September, Little Athletics Tasmania runs a cross country competition at various sites across Greater Hobart. See their poster for dates and locations.

Registration details and an age group table are below.

New Age Groups for 2018 / 2019

The main change for the upcoming season is that age groups will align with the calendar year (Jan-Dec) instead of the Little Athletics year (Oct-Sep).

Current athletes who were born Oct-Dec will increment two age groups whilst current athletes born Jan-Sep will increment one age group, as usual.
